Year 5/6 Residential 2027
The Year 5 and 6 residential this year will be to PGL site Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. For more information on the venue please use the link below -
On Monday 19th October there was a session for parents about the trip. All the questions from the session are below and any extra information that parents might need. If you have any others, then please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Trip Cost - £340 - this includes all transport, activities, accommodation and insurance. This is less than the cost of the residential trip last year.
Deposit - this is £50 due by Friday 6th November
Are all payments for the trip made via Arbor?
Yes - all payments must be made via the Arbor app. There are no options to pay by cash or cheque.
Is there help available for funding the trip for parents?
This is on an individual basis. Please come and speak to Mr Reed about options for this should you require support. Please note that any conversation with Mr Reed will be dealt with confidentially.
Are phones allowed?
No phones for contacting home are not allowed. They do not help children in this situation and can create more anxiety and issues. Phones without sim cards can be used to take pictures of their experience. I would personally minimise any electronic devices as they can either get lost or damaged.
What are the sleeping arrangements?
Boys and girls are separate. Depending on how many children from each year group, we try and separate Years 5 and 6 as well.
How are groups chosen?
The children choose their own groups just before we go on the residential itself. The children do get to choose the children they are with. We normally ask them to pair up first and then pair up with another pair and so on.
How many places are there?
We have a guaranteed 72 places, and it is on a first come first-serve basis. We need a minimum of 60 children to attend for the residential to take place.
What activities will the children be doing?
These are decided closer to the time but there will be water and high rope activities available for all the children. There is no requirement for all children to all the activities but we try to do things that will push children.
What is the food like?
At this particular centre, because it is large and there will be at least one other school there it means there is a large variety of food available for all meals. Any dietary requirements can be catered for at this centre.
Is there an emergency contact when they go?
Yes there will be an emergency contact for when the children are there.
Is there a kit list?
Yes you will be provided with a kit list closer to the time of the trip and once your child's place is confirmed.
Will there be another parent session closer to the time?
Yes - we always do a pre-residential meeting closer to the time just so parents can ask any more questions they may have and finalise the details.
What time do they leave and arrive back to school?
The children will leave school on the Friday just after drop off and they will come back to school on the Monday normally just after the end of the school day.
