JAMES CARTER is an award-winning children’s poet/guitarist and a non-fiction/educational writer. He is the author of over 18 popular and best-selling poetry titles. James travels all over the UK and abroad with his guitar (that’s Keith) and melodica (that’s Steve) to give very lively poetry/music performances and workshops, and is a former lecturer in Creative Writing/Children’s Literature at Reading University. In the last 16 years he has visited over 1000 Primary schools and performed at various prestigious festivals including Cheltenham, Hay and Edinburgh.
James is our official Patron of Reading in school. His aim with every Patron of Reading residency is to primarily to inspire writing through a whole range of workshops, performances and assemblies. For this residency, he has conducted two poetry/music assemblies and various poetry workshops. James wrote a rap poem that was performed by the children in every year group for the opening of the new Broughton Imagination Station; he led an after-school Family Fun Session and was absolutely thrilled with the results of the non-fiction workshops – the brilliant Mini Information Books created by every child in the school and now proudly displayed in the Imagination Station! James wishes to thank all of the children and the teachers/’Totally Awesomes’ of Broughton Juniors for all their positivity and creativity and for giving 100% commitment to the residency so far!
